The logo of the University of the Art Singapore (UAS) was launched on Wednesday 10 May 2023 by the Minister of Education, Mr Chan Chun Sing at the University’s inaugural Arts Education Symposium, held at LASALLE College of the Arts. Attending the launch at the one-day symposium were 420 guests, including staff of UAS, LASALLE and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), educators, artists, industry practitioners and partners.

The Symposium opened with a special tribute to the founders of both LASALLE and NAFA. Ten senior arts educators also received special appreciation and recognition for their contributions in nurturing generations of artists, practitioners and researchers. They were elected for their diversity of art forms, impact and mentorship, contributions, length of service and scholarship.

In his opening address, Minister Chan urged the University to offer new value propositions for the global economy with future organisations going interdisciplinary with designers, artists and engineers working closer together. A logo launch moment after the minister’s address was ushered in by a collaborative faculty-student performance segment of both LASALLE and NAFA students. UAS’ Vice-Chancellor Professor Kwok Kian Woon gave his keynote where he highlighted the value of arts education and its challenges in the face of global crises and technological advancements. Two panel discussion sessions were also held during the day’s symposium.

The Symposium signals a promising future to more dynamic collaborations between UAS and its constituent colleges, LASALLE and NAFA. It was also an exciting start to elevate arts training here for years to come.
